Type of review

Bought to compare with rpi zero + camera and was pleasantly surprised with the image quality after installing Arduino IDE sample (AI Thinker ESP CAM board type) and CameraWebServer sample. It takes just over 1 second to capture and display a 1600 x 1200 JPG image, which isn't bad for $20. The instructions make it seem like something flared up on the board, so I only tried it for a minute or two. to "wake it up" with my voice and if that didn't work I went straight to the Arduino IDE andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • external 2 megapixel camera
Cons
  • updates

Easy Setup - Single Board Computer

I used this ESP cam in about fifteen minutes. I still have to fiddle around a bit to get the best picture, but for $20 it's just a win!

Pros
  • with Integrated Digital Microphone

The documentation, if any, is out of date.

No link to documentation or information available. I found something on the adafruit site, there were links to the espressif site, but all the links in the documentation don't work. Development must be done in an espressif environment based on *nix. I can do other ESP32 development work in both Arduino IDE and PlatformIO. Why doesn't it work for them? Although it looks very good, I will not set up another development environment / operating system to work with it. Send back.
