Yes, it's more than 5 x 4 inches BUT.

Yes, it is more than 5" x 4" BUT. I used this to connect the 4.95" suction of my 4" PVC dust bag and it worked great. Clamps all tightened and not deformed the rubber. Worked great.

Not just for plumbing projects

I needed a 5" to 4" adapter/coupler: to use my Haier portable air conditioner. The unit has a 5" outlet but I had a 4" dryer vent installed. in my wall so this adapter worked great for my application as shown in my photos. Not aesthetically pleasing to look at, but hey, it works!

Nowhere in the description are the actual dimensions of the reducer given, but I assumed the inside diameters of the sides would be very close to 4" and 5" which would give a fairly snug fit even before the hose clamps were tightened . Unfortunately, the diameters are a bit larger than expected for my purposes. On the 4" side, the inside diameter is 4 3/8" and the outside diameter is 5 1/8". On the 5" side, the inside diameter is 5 1/2" and the outside diameter is 6…
