Fairly intuitive installation, but I'm not sure who led you to believe that structural screws can be screwed in with a Phillips head screwdriver. After about 5 minutes of manhood testing effort which resulted in the bolt being partially ripped off, I pulled out my drill and after another 5 minutes it was done.
