Ultimate Polishing Power: Extra Thick Spiral Sewn Buffing Wheel (80-Ply), 8-inch Diameter Review

I will use it for polishing chisels and planes. This works much better than loose buffs. Tight stitching makes it ideal for cutting tools.

I have not accepted a polish without filling my grinder with a bunch of protruding threads. Very tough on the material - difficult to polish with any pressure as the buffing wheel is too soft. Heat up the piece I was polishing and left some polishing paste on it instead of polishing it. Makes my bench grinder vibrate a lot.

The buffing wheel is decent but the mandrel size is not specified and the answers were split 50/50. So I took a picture as most of the recent reviews said it was a 5/8 pavilion. However, the one I received had a 1/2" pickup hole which I had to ream to fit the 5/8" pickup. Shoots strings when you first fire it up, but I polished a few things and it seems to be holding up pretty well.

If you enjoy polishing metal or plastic, this polishing pad is for you. It fits my Ryobi 8" bench grinder. The cushion has enough weight so that the motor does not become unbalanced. I have found several polishes here at Revain that help me remove dirt from metals. I mainly use the polishing machine to polish candlesticks and other altarpieces in my church. After I'm done, I apply a good coat of carnauba wax to maintain the shine and make fingerprints easier to wipe off.

This is the second time I have ordered this extra thick 8" wheel (Enkay 158-H80) after having to return the first one to Revain because the hole in the Arbor is NOT 5/8" as listed in the Enkay product catalog. Again, it was the first one shipped to me with a 1/2" arbor hole that doesn't fit my 8" polisher with a 5/8" arbor.
