These are by far the highest quality pastel pencils I have ever purchased. The colors are very rich and blend easily without the chalkiness of softer pastels. The metal case is very nice, a small color chart is included. The pens are not printed with the name of the color but have a number corresponding to the color. Additionally, the colors are printed on the opposite end of the pen, making them easy to find and organize during use.

I really like Faber-Castel products, so I chose them, but I'll be honest when I say that they don't go well together. I have a small jar of Stabilo Chalk Pastel crayons and they combine beautifully and I was really hoping this product would do the same. *** After some research (via Blick), however, I noticed that Faber Castel pencils, in contrast to Stabilo CarbOthello Chalk-Pastel pastels, are not listed as harmful to health.

I had so much fun with them. They remind me of super chalk. I've found that when I use them to outline the area I'm coloring and then use the blender to fill in the rest of the area, the image looks so nice. They seem to last longer than the CarbOthello brand. That being said, the only differences between the two (in my opinion) are the differences in shades, and Faber Castell feels less powdery than if it has wax or oil in it. These pencils can be a better solution than wax, oil or water based pencils. Pastels are much easier to blend and I prefer a natural matte finish. These pastels are harder than Derwent's, which I also like. I use different blend sizes and precision-tipped cotton swabs to achieve the desired effect.
