Works only with Linux

The declared PC came with a working but unlicensed copy of Win10. This was enough to test the functionality. It was very easy to connect a USB CD/DVD reader and install the Linux distribution Kubuntu 20.04 from the ISO DVD. I don't use WiFi, so I can't talk to Linux drivers for the WiFi chip. All wired ports are recognized correctly. The graphics are enough to smoothly control a TV with a resolution of 1080 pixels. I use this as an HTPC (mainly for playing music). The device has enough CPU/GPU…

Great for PFSense - low power consumption and small size!

Purchased to run PFSense without tons of power. It used to run a Xeon server, which was complete overkill. Installing PFSense was initially a difficult task as the device comes pre-installed with Windows 10. After logging into Windows 10 and going to Advanced Boot to boot from USB, you can easily overwrite the default (unlicensed) Windows 10 installation with a PFSense installation. Then the PF Sense boots come without any problems. The quad-port Intel NIC is one of the best features of this…

Rugged Mini PC - pfSense compatible

I bought the 8GB RAM/128GB SSD version of this product to run a home firewall. The first overall impression was great when I turned on the device. I had no problems with the initial setup and connection to the device. It boots into Windows 10 (unlicensed). I did a backup and then rebooted the device and set the boot order to boot from the USB stick. Zero problems as far as it went. pfSense loaded on SSD and not flipped. Out of interest, I decided to turn on the WiFi adapter to control the…

  • Not everything fits

Perfect fit for my Firewall/IDS/IPS OpnSense

As mentioned by others using this for pfsense, this is also the perfect combination of hardware to run OpnSense. I don't use Wi-Fi because I use a regular Wi-Fi router in hotspot mode connected to it for my home's mesh Wi-Fi network, but everything else is handled by this box, including full firewall , IDS/IPS and even a DNS black hole for bad domains. Average CPU utilization is below 20% most of the time and temperatures average around 44-46 C - great for a fanless system. The built-in memory…

Great Linux router box

I use this nice little box as a router/firewall for my Ubuntu 20.04 based home network. I chose these because of the integrated Intel network cards and was not disappointed. It's actually overkill for this purpose, but it's nice not to have to worry about resource limitations. It works pretty cool (for a passive design) and of course it's completely silent. The only criticism I have is that the included SSD storage is noticeably slower than my other machines. This only affects OS installation…

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • Good but not great
