The best I've ever used.

They don't hold liquid like many others and are easy to clean in the dishwasher. They can be a bit slippery than others I've tried, so they're easy to clean. I like to use them in my fermentation jars. They also fold up nicely without taking up much bench space.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Small parts

Too difficult to remove.

These weights will hold whatever you ferment, but what an absolute headache they must eliminate. I used them to ferment garlic in raw honey. Grabbing it to take it off was next to impossible. I had to drain some honey and scoop it out with a spoon. Save yourself the hassle and buy kettlebells with handles.

Pros
  • The Ultimate Legend
Cons
  • No Instructions

Heavy and well made

These weights are heavy enough to keep sauerkraut underwater. They are well made and have no corners or edges. However, once in place, they are difficult to manipulate as it is very difficult to grab the "handle" when the charge is wet, and this becomes even more difficult because it fits the wide-necked jug very tightly . A comfortable grip would be a big improvement.

Pros
  • Best in the niche
Cons
  • boring packaging

Sturdy construction, strong and great price

They fit my jars perfectly and are heavy enough to handle all my brine fermentation projects. They're also relatively easy to pop out of the cans (they fit well but aren't bulky/uncomfortably tight). I was also happy with the quantity (most seem to be 4 packs which is not enough; 7 packs is awesome) and the price is incredibly competitive (same price as 4 packs but double the amount).

Pros
  • sequins
Cons
  • poorly thought out

MOISTURE SLIPPER for home brewing and wine making

These weights hold food very well under brine but are very difficult to remove when wet. When they are wet, which is almost always the case for me, I press down on one side and then relieve pressure with a small pair of coated pliers. I prefer the ones that don't have a recessed grip but have more weight as I find them easy to remove. They'll cost you a bit of jar space, but make your fermenting life so much easier.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Nice update - Kitchen & Dining

I've been fermenting sauerkraut in wide-mouth jars for a while. I've used household items like Chinese teacups as fermentation weights. It worked but they were too light I thought there was something better. After digging around the internet for a while, I found these weights. They came in a pack of 7 which I felt was more than I needed but I quickly found that 7 was just right for my needs. I've found them to be easier to grab when taking them out of the jar than I expected. I use my fingers…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • embarrassing

They do the job.: Fermentation and more

The most common criticism I hear of glass fermentation weights is that they are difficult to remove. There are different designs with handles and such but I find that they are all slippery and quite difficult to hold once in the jar. However, if you feel like it, you can simply tilt the weight to get a good grip. Then it's a simple matter. This design has handles, like most, but they don't reach for a good grip, but it doesn't matter. I doubt other handle designs are better as the glass needs…

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
