Great for caged rats

I had to go back to fleece paper mats because my rats tore the fleece completely up in a few days. The spreaders really help them spread the bedding all over the place and on the floor. It's not perfect, of course, but it's a lot better than not having one at all. Installation was easy, only negative is the latches that hold it to the ground, they are flimsy and don't fit very well, but I don't see that as a problem.

Fragile, ineffective, disappointing

Unfortunately, Midwest Homes decided to make a cage from their Critter Nation line that comes with shells so shallow they're practically useless when you have chinchillas. This product is a complement to and is designed to attach to your terrible pans. The clips do not attach well to the pan and do very little to keep litter and debris in the pan. Do not buy this product and be careful with their cage, if you have chinchillas they obviously have no idea what it's like to raise your chin in a…

MUST HAVE FOR CRITTER NATIONS

Love that they come in a pack of 3 at a really good price as my current rat pups are chewing. My previous group of rats never bothered the ramp covers and they lasted forever because they are so well made. But even the best ramp covers cannot withstand the small teeth of motivated chewers. These ramp covers wash very well no matter how dirty they get. They look brand new when they come out of the washer/dryer. The velcro on the top of the covers is sewn in such a way that it will not come off…

Cheap and annoying junk. There are better ways.

These screen protectors are absolute crap. They are so thin and flimsy that they easily bend during shipping and arrive damaged. The pieces don't stick together very well and I was afraid of breaking them every time I installed them. Still, it helps keep the litter in the cage better, but not by much. My rats easily slipped a bedding under the guard which overflowed and fell on the floor. I ended up buying a large cement mixing tub from Lowe, trimming the edges and putting it in the cage…

Great for upgrading your Ferret Nation 141/142 to 181/182

I had a 12 year old Ferret Nation double level 142 cage and wanted to upgrade it for a new ferret shop. For those unaware of the differences, the older 14X cages are bolted together and have a different style of shelf (a flat plastic insert is inserted into a metal shelf, leaving some of the metal exposed at the top). newer 18X models mount with a pin system and have shelves instead of a plastic insert. Aside from the above differences, the cells are the same. As I was getting ready for new…

Be very careful! - Small animals

First I bought despite the bad reviews. that was mistake #1. Received 4 panels as described, however only 1 panel was straight and the other 3 were curved. I installed them anyway, that was mistake #2. Installation was doable, but I'm surprised at how many sharp edges these panels had. There were also large gaps at the bottom of all 4 panels, even the straight one, allowing the bedding to slip through. I was hoping it wouldn't fall out too much. That was mistake #3. Not only did the bedding…

My rats can't chew the bottom bowl anymore!

It was just what I needed! I don't use this to prevent the linens from spilling over the sides. We use Zilla Terrarium Liner and Fleece. The reason I bought this is because I needed something to stop rats from chewing on the rim of the bottom bowl and zilla liners. They love to gnaw corners. This Scatter Guard works great! The Scatter Guard was easy to assemble but I won't lie, I had to bend down a bit and maybe even struggle a bit to get the clips over the edge of the tray but I managed it. I…

THE COVER FITS THE CAGE ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY

There seem to be several positions on this page. I examine the black lid of the cage. We originally bought this blanket to keep our ferret warm on cold nights. This is really a great cover. It fits perfectly with this cage. You can set it up to only cover the top layer. But the real value of this suitcase came after our little ferret died and we put our rescued chinchilla in this cage. Chinchillas need dust baths to stay healthy and that dust is everywhere! This cover didn't let dust fly in all

Pros
  • Brings joy

  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

A pot bottom lid or a good Fancy Rats chew toy?

This is a weekly issue for our family but I'm still willing to do it. Our fancy rats smelled awful. I mean awful. As with most pets, as a mother, I now have to take care of them. I researched why they smell so bad and came to the conclusion that maybe I'm keeping the cage too clean. I've also read that fleece can absorb their smell and make them more comfortable so they're less likely to leave an odor. So I added fleece to the bottom of the Critter Nation cage and made a harness insert. The…
