It's annoying that the display backlight doesn't stay on and there's no obvious date code

Note that the blue display backlight does not stay on (despite the misinformation on the First Alert site). As a result, the LCD display can be "read at a glanceโ€ just a few seconds after a button is pressed. For this reason, I prefer Kidde CO alarms with an LED display that I can easily read from across the room and out the window. Darkness anytime without pressing a button. Note that a quick press of the button does nothing but blink the green LED; The button must be pressed for a second orโ€ฆ

Saved my life! Best fire safety

I've had this exact carbon monoxide alarm for about 10 years which is about the lifespan and as it died I just bought this replacement. So my comments relate to the previous one, but I think it's the same. Three years ago, on a freezing evening, the alarm clock rang. Maximum level recorded (>400). I didn't feel or notice anything, but we left the house immediately and called the gas company. She and the firefighters came out and inspected the house. They found that the heating stove hadโ€ฆ

You may have just saved our lives

I bought two of these after another cheaper carbon monoxide alarm went off in the middle of the night. I read some reviews of another carbon monoxide alarm with false alarms and convinced myself it was probably a false alarm, but I opened the windows to air out the house. I received them two days ago and they worked the first night. I opened the windows and concluded that it must have been my water heater, which was recently installed and failed the test. It was a faulty product and a waste of time

I have bought it to be on the safe side and the alarm went off immediately after switching it on. Loud siren ordered my house to be evacuated! Wow what a shock. Tried in several rooms. Can you imagine?! Reading revealed toxic levels in my house. hours to live. After the initial shock I called the gas company to come in for an emergency visit and in full gear and masks they gave ZERO readings. This product has shown fatal signs. It was a defective product and a waste of time, energy andโ€ฆ
