So far I've had two of these scratch mats scattered around the house and seen my cat use both. Putting some catnip spray on it will help your cat check on it. The design is very simple and I won't place the pads where the company sees them, but most scraper pads are not aesthetically pleasing. These are good basic scratching posts for kittens.

My daughter has two cats and they seem to be competing to sharpen their claws best. Like crazy passive-aggressive cat behavior. A few of these sprinkled over the areas they scratch the most (and a generous layer of catnip) have been successful in getting cats to scratch the scratch pads. My cats use this cardboard scratching post regularly. I think this is particularly attractive as the 3 cardboard inserts are stacked on top of each other so they can be refolded (even flipped over) when used, which also gives this horizontal scraper extra height. Not bad scratching posts. There are three in the box and these are your main pads. When I opened them, I noticed a smell I had never encountered before. It dissolves pretty quickly and the cats are still alive, so it's probably just packaging. There is no catnip in the kit like most, but I have my own. Nice set at a reasonable price. They are a bit narrower than I'm used to, but also a bit longer. My 16 lb kitten liked it I think the extra length on them - being long - gives her a longer surface area.
