Very poor design, cheaply made

Very poor design, cheaply made. I literally used it once and it broke while removing from soft box. I paid over $50, I'd have been disappointed if I got it for free. Too bad, I wanted to like this.

Pros
  • Compared to other grids on the market, the Fotodiox Pro Octagon Eggcrate Grid is an affordable solution that delivers professional results.
Cons
  • May not be durable enough for outdoor use

Horrible product. Terrible customer service.

I was replacing all my softboxes and grids, and saw that Fotodiox was running some great sales on amazon. I bought 5-6 softboxes in varying sizes along with matching grids. Literally, within days they were starting to fall apart. The reinforcing rods were poking through the pockets of the softboxes, and/or tearing along the seems. And the grids were literally falling apart every time you removed them. Some of them were falling apart as I assembled them for the first time.I contacted the company

Pros
  • At 36", the Fotodiox Pro Octagon Eggcrate Grid is big enough to illuminate even the largest subjects.
Cons
  • Can be noisy or distracting during shoots

It works, but be gentle with it.

Seems like Fotodiox likes to save money on instructions, as neither the grid nor the softbox ever came with instructions. So I tore the grid some when I first was figuring it out. It still works and does a nice job. Just don't pull on it too hard.

Pros
  • This grid works perfectly and easy to mount
Cons
  • May not fit all types of softboxes, limiting versatility

Grid it good! - my new review

So, I bought this grid to increase the directionality of light coming form my 60" octa, a requirement it satisfied handily. A nice (to me) side effect, that I should have thought of was the fact that it also eats up some light. Consequently, I can shoot a little less stopped down, or at more than 1/4 power on my monolight. While I'm not getting the exact results I want, I think that is more due to my lack of familiarity, and the fact that my strip box is MUCH better suited to the results I…

Pros
  • Soft Boxes
Cons
  • May require specialized equipment to mount or adjust

Paper Grid.Not Fabric. Be warned

I bought this grid to go with my EZ 60" Octagon Softbox. Upon opening the package and testing it out I went to remove the Eggcrate Grid from the octagon and it tore. That is because it is made of PAPER! It is not a fabric like all other grids I've used, it is paper and now I have a huge hole in grid that I HAVE to keep because I live abroad and don't have time to return it.and I need a grid. I am an avid reader of reviews before I buy products and I wish someone had mentioned its material…

Pros
  • Works great!
Cons
  • Additional setup time required to attach the grid

It does what it's supposed to do

For the price of this grid and the EZ Pro softbox I'm not complaining. It's very well built, it's rugged, and since stuff like this should be considered consumables (i.e. there's no point repairing them if they break) then the price is right. I use this with my Einstein light because the PCB "original" is way overpriced for what it's supposed to do. This is a very decent bargain that's got very decent quality. Where else will you find an "unmbrella" (foldable) softbox and grid for $120? I love…

Pros
  • Lighting Controls & Modifiers
Cons
  • Can reduce light transmission by up to 70%

Its very fine, almost like paper so if you are rough .

I toyed with making my own grid for my 48-inch softbox. Eventually broke down and ordered this one. Its very fine, almost like paper so if you are rough with the installation or removal, you can rip the tiny grid junctions apart. This requires a more delicate touch. Def does what a grid should do. Very happy with the lighting results.

Pros
  • Coolest grid I have ever owned
Cons
  • Difficult to clean and maintain

Well built, EZ setup, terrific light

I have a few Fotodiox pieces in my kit and I like them all. This one though, is exceptional. All of the materials are heavy duty and assembled well. I think that this is going to last. The design is excellent too.it is really easy to "pop open", put in the two diffusers and shoot. I have the one with the Bowens mount and it fits onto my monolight easily. The grid is also well made and not "floppy". It's easily rigid enough to keep its shape. The light quality is what you'd expect from a double…

Pros
  • The grid is easy to install and can be attached to your EZ-Pro or Pro standard softbox in a matter of seconds.
Cons
  • May take up too much space in the studio or on location

The icing on the cake for the soft box it fits

In small soft boxes, a grid like this does produce harder light. In large soft boxes it just prevents the light from spreading to walls and objects that may change the color of a bounced source without affecting the softness on the subject. It all fits into the original soft box bag.

Pros
  • Each grid is 2"x2" and 1.5" deep
Cons
  • Can be a safety hazard if not secured properly

Buyer BEWARE. This grid IS NOT well made.

The grid is poorly constructed. BUYER BEWARE, this is a good product IF you are leaving it on the soft box forever. The Nylon-Webbed Fabric tears easily and isn't made to last. I've used it on three occasions and it's literally falling apart, I take very good care of all my equipment. its been less than 3 weeks and this grid is already garbage. The velcro edges that attach to the soft box are 100x's SRONGER than the grid itself.

Pros
  • I loved this when I had it. I have since sold it though.
Cons
  • Grid openings may be too narrow for some lighting needs
