Drove past a birch tree with a very low power rechargeable drill

I really liked that these drills were very controllable and with my 12v single speed drill I was able to drill through 1.5 inches of a flesh block of birch wood. As others have said in the reviews, just take your time. When the drill hits the bottom, it is blocked. Pull the drill out a little, remove the wood shavings and continue working while watching the drill heat up. I stopped halfway for a few seconds to let the drill cool down a bit - I know it's really not designed for that. At first…

Another quality tool from Freud

Construction of a mahogany pergola. I needed a Forstner bit to drill some flat bottomed holes in my construction screw gussets. I wanted a nice clean hole and it had to be 3 inches deep. I didn't dare to make these holes with a shovel. Because mahogany is soft, I lowered the price and bought a set of Ryobi Forstner bits from Home Depot. They were rubbish and didn't give a clean hole. No grinding required! Great beat!

To be honest, I was very skeptical about the extra charge for Freud Forstner tips. I've been using a Porter Cable Kit for years, which costs a lot less, and have been quite happy with the results. I usually had to grind, but I found it ok. When I needed a size that wasn't in my kit I ordered a cheaper tip but decided to find out if Freud's tips were really as good as the hype. Well they are!
