Hard to tell from the product photos but as well as the brass nut on the outside there is a thin lock nut behind the plate where you mount the switch to allow the depth to be adjusted to suit different gauges of material , and the large transparent plastic threaded part is not visible. The end result looks great.

Failed to load media. Great switch! I used it to connect an antique gas stove to a lamp. I was able to add some vintage flair by installing an old faucet handle that didn't get in the way of the switch and fitted perfectly! The only problem I had was that there were no instructions on how to add a switch to the cable. Couldn't find any videos on youtube but luckily dad has an electrician.

I have an old oil lamp that was converted to an electric about 40 years ago and the switch has failed. The big hardware store didn't have it, even though they have a whole department of similar parts from the same manufacturer. They had other options (black plastic handle, knob) but the switch is exposed to the lamp so looks are important. It fit perfectly, wasn't more expensive than in store, shipping was free because I have Prime. This is an additional item but I ordered other things anyway…
