Garmin 7-Inch Suction Cup Mount Review

This is the perfect replacement for your Garmin GPS. My original degraded so that the suction cup let air through and after about 5 minutes the GPS fell onto the visor. The rubber has become too hard. The new suction cup is flexible and lasts all day. I'm sure this too will fail in a similar fashion one day, but I will be ordering the same replacement.

They work great when new. I drive an old truck that doesn't have UV protection. This designated parking lot faces south. Especially brutal in summer. I've never had a GPS that didn't fall off the windshield within a week of installing it where you'll spend the rest of your life licking your finger or rubbing alcohol and hard to pray it stays on once the sun comes out. I have not been happy with the original Garmin mount that came with my 7 inch GPS since I first bought it 3 years ago. I was surprised to see that the mount that came with it was the same size as the mount for my previous 5 inch GPS. The ball is too small and slippery to carry my nüvi2795. I used 100 grit sandpaper for sanding. Works better now but GPS still hangs on rough roads. Unfortunately, there aren't many other window mounting options for heavy 7-inch devices. Had the same problem with a weighted dash mount, used the same solution.

My Garmin DriveSmart 61 (6.95") GPS with the included windshield suction cup had two problems. First, because the mount was so compact, the top left corner of the GPS body touched the windshield before I could adjust the viewing angle. Second, the weight of the GPS can overcome the suction power. So this one has a slightly larger suction cup and a slightly longer mount which eliminates both problems. Must come with the device and does not need to be purchased separately.
