Garmin has serious quality control issues.

I wish I could say that I've had very positive experiences with Garmin products, but I haven't. I have an eTrex H that works fine but has a weak wrist attachment (it broke when I took it out of my pocket and had to walk down a ravine to get it). I have a Forerunner 405 that has worked fine but has had to be changed 3 times in just over a year. Since the third replacement would cost me a lot of money, I bought the Forerunner 305 hoping it would be more reliable. It seems that everything is fineโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Batteries are not included with this device. All AA batteries will work with this device.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

OK GPS price

I've owned (and lost) a previous Garmin E-trex so I knew what to expect. On my first ride with this "Enter" key, it became very, very difficult to press, to the point where I had to use a blunt object to press it (no finger pressure helped - fingertips are too soft ). It's also the button used for waypoints, so I just had to follow the "footprints" back because the waypoints got too complicated. There are no integrated maps. There is no way to move around the screen - you can only zoom in orโ€ฆ

Pros
  • 5 buttons on either side for one handed use
Cons
  • Not bad but...

A simple but effective product.

As a military scout, I used this GPS for about two months in multiple training scenarios in different environments and the product has exceeded my expectations. Although its features are a bit limited compared to more advanced models, it is very durable and easy to use. I have used it for extended periods in extreme conditions, rain, snow and temperatures well below freezing, often tying it to an outer pocket of the vest and the garment has shown no signs of wear. It has MGRS (Military Gridโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Highly sensitive WAAS-enabled GPS receiver for maximum performance in all conditions
Cons
  • Fragile
