Gate details are top notch!

100,000 mile block replacement on my 2005 Silverado. I always use Gates as they make high quality products and are often OEMs for major car manufacturers. I've been using their products for over 20 years with no problems. Always check the idler pulleys when changing belts.

Pros
  • While satisfied
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

High quality Gates part!

I've never had a problem with Gates parts and this tensioner was perfect for my 2000 Tahoe (new body style). Difficult to remove but easy for me as the A/C compressor had already been removed for replacement.

Pros
  • Sleek Design
Cons

perfect for 2000 GMC Sierra 5.3

Old tensioner beeped on cold starts - more and more, especially in cold weather. But I didn't notice that the spring tension was basically removed. Installation took 20 minutes - 2 15mm screws held it in place. Use a standard 3/8" socket wrench to ease the tension on the AC belt. Remove and reinstall the screws. Easy.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Large and bulky

On my 2002 Tahoe 5.3L

the Gates AC seat belt pretensioner #38159 that I received is not aligned with the Delco AC seat belt pretensioner. I didn't notice a difference when I installed the tensioner, but the mechanic noticed the pulley contacted the A/C, distorting the pulley and ruining the belt. The mechanic showed me that the shaft holding the pulley is in a different position than the AC Delco belt tensioner. I believe I may have received a defective product.

Pros
  • Easy Install
Cons
  • Vulgarity

CHECK THIS AND THE A/C BELT IN GM 99-06 TRUCKS IF YOU HAVE A/C!

I BOUGHT 6 OF THESE LAST YEAR. I ALWAYS BUY TRUCKS WITH NON-WORKING AIR CONDITIONING, LOOK DOWN, BELT IS OUT AND TENSIONER IS INSTALLED. FIRST THING TO DO IS TO ORDER AND SEE IF THIS WILL FIX MY AIR CONDITIONING DEFICIENCY. INSTALL A LITTLE BUT PAIN. REMOVE THE MAIN BELT FIRST TO ATTACH THIS BELT TO THE PULLEY. HAVE TO DO IT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. BUT ALL 6 TIMES I REPLACED THE TENSIONER AND THE BELT AND THE AIR CONDITIONING WORKS. A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE GM TRUCKS. AND GATES MAKES GREAT…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
