Pump worked, came with heater bypass pipe, gasket and o-ring

I give 5 stars. If this fails in a year or two I will return to this review. So far, so good. The pump was cheaper than elsewhere, was of decent quality and came with a bypass pipe for the heater. It was as easy to install as any other pump and is now working great.

Poor quality straight out of the box

I've always been told Gates is a good brand and I've always bought their hoses and belts, but this water pump just isn't up to scratch. I don't know, maybe I have just a bad block but you can see in the photos that there are some mold issues, one of which was covered with some sort of filler. I ordered this product because it came with a gasket, o-ring and bypass tube and I thought Gates was a good brand. Now I regret not buying something local to see first.

Gates quality. Pretty easy job, allow yourself 6 hours the first time

Quality from Gates, pump came with pump gasket, also heater hose tube and tube o-ring. When removing the bolts from the old pump, take the bolts and put them into the corresponding holes on the new pump, when removing the old pump, take the bolts and put them back into the corresponding holes on the old pump, sounds like a hokey poke, but keep sorting them out, comes in handy when installing a new pump, and also helps with installing upholstery glue.

  • Delivery was very quick

  • Not as thick as other picks

Perfect fit, no more leakage.

Purchased for a '96 Grand Cherokee with a 5.2L V8 that started leaking from the water pump. This pump is perfect. It comes with a new steel pipe that connects to the heater hose, but that pipe is too short for the Grand Cherokee. You may be able to use a new hose if you install a new (longer) heater hose. I simply fitted the supplied o-ring to the old pipe and everything worked fine. I cleaned the groove holding the o-ring very carefully with a wire brush on a dremel tool to ensure a good seal…

The pump looks good but looks can be deceiving

There is a line in the documentation for the water pump that the pump may look and have different dimensions than the OEM but that's no reason to worry. Things like that make me nervous when I see them, and unfortunately it rings true here. It was nice that they included a metal tube that connects to the heater hose and an o-ring where the tube connects to the water pump. However, the tube that came with it didn't match the screw holes, so it couldn't be used. In fact, my old pump's heater tube

Only lasted 406 days

I'm embarrassed to write this review but this American made water pump only lasted 406 days. I expected that from a water pump made in China. It's already seeping out of the tear hole. I installed it on my '96 Dakota on 11/2/19 with 177,000 miles. Then today (12/2/20) after driving 180,971 miles I noticed a puddle of 50/50 antifreeze under the truck and in a wet drain at the water pump. but I was wrong. Do not buy this brand it is not worth the time and effort to install and then do it again in

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Damaged

Failed within the first 3 months on an 02 Dakota.

Do you enjoy installing critical components in your car's cooling system only to find that they fail within the first 3 months? If so, then THIS is the water pump for you! It worked fine until it broke. That was really about 2 Β½ months. I've worked with cars for many years and I've never seen a pump fail so quickly. A few days ago I started having a horrible whine and other weird effects and now coolant is leaking through the drain hole, overheating, coolant everywhere. Engine compartment…

Good pump, no problems, no leaks or noise, check a few tips

I need this to replace the water pump in my SUV; It made some bearing noise, although there was no leak yet. The water pump, which I received new in the description, comes with a gasket and a black pipe for the heater (which was not mentioned in the description). Upon delivery they must have dropped the box and when I examined the pump prior to fitting I found that a very small crack/dent created a bulge in the surface that was supposed to sit in the motor and gasket, nothing scary, i just…
