Easy-to-Install Power Strips and Surge Protector

If you have breaker box space for this whole-home surge protector, it's no problem. For added protection for all those electronic devices where a guard isn't practical, this is the best solution, and for other devices like computers and televisions, it's an excellent secondary line of defense against electrical surges that can cause damage. Now I can only hope that this is never put to the test. Once it works, it's done and needs to be replaced.

Pros
  • One-Year Trial
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Exactly as shown/description. The installation in the control box was simple and uncomplicated. Just plug it into a double pole switch and connect the white wire to ground. A simple 10 minute project. The indicator lights up as soon as the main switch is turned on. Very easy to check to make sure it's working as intended. This was part of an additional GE panel powered by the main panel which also has surge protection. I now know that my entire electrical system is protected against surges…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Low repairability

Great product, easy to install.

My mother's house is over 60 years old and 90% of the house has no ground wires, so she cannot use a surge protector in the outlet where it is needed (due to lack of grounding). Lives in a remote area and has many jumps. Crazy about cordless phones and answering machines. She recently replaced her old FPE panel with a GE panel. This whole house surge protector has been added to the panel and now has good surge protection. Cheaper than Siemens at my house and rated better. There's no reason not…

Pros
  • Surge Protector
Cons
  • Will be added later

GE THQLSURGE SURGEPRO Review

This review is about GE's THQLSURGE SURGEPRO. So far, so good. Installed as SPD type 2 in a secondary control panel in the garage. It occupies the same space as 4 single pole switches. I'm a homeowner, not an electrician. The only wire is white, 10 AWG, which I shortened to about 6 inches and connected to the neutral rail. The green LED is not very bright, but this is normal given that this panel is indoors. It runs a bit warmer, I think that's ok. I decided not to move all other switches down.

Pros
  • Power Strips & Surge Protectors
Cons
  • Big and Bulky

A. Fairly inexpensive first line of defense

Fairly easy to install but I had to move four flimsy circuit breakers down to clear the slots closest to the neutral tab. It does have a short lead to connect to neutral, but that is by design as you need the shortest route to get rid of the surges. To install switches in this plate, align the tab on the plate with the notch in the switch. Make sure the switch clicks easily into place. I've had one of these circuit breakers on my Square D panel for a number of years and they seem to protect…

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
