Poor counterbalance cable design. But they fit.

They keep failing in our dishwasher. There is no choice but to keep replacing when they fail. The end of the hook is not strong enough. They are difficult to replace. I probably have 60 bucks just to replace these cables in the last 5 years.

Completely satisfied

This is what I ordered and is a genuine GE part. However, the part is 95% correct --- not perfect. The cord is about half an inch longer, so when I open the dishwasher door it falls about an inch below horizontal. It doesn't matter much and is GE's problem, not the supplier's. Completely satisfied with the service provided by the provider.

Most likely a falling door repair

After struggling with a falling dishwasher door for half a year, I finally figured out which part was most likely broken and fixed it. Of course, the original plastic part of this hinge broke. Why plastic?! If this breaks again I would try replacing the plastic part with metal wire and see if that works rather than buying another poorly designed part.

  • a good thing

Easy fix for dishwasher door falling off

Our dishwasher's door hinge cable broke a long time ago and we just got used to holding the door and lowering it slightly. But recently we sold our house to a family with a one year old child. So I told my husband this door needed repairs and ordered a cable for the hinge and in very little time the door was fixed! Ideal! Now I don't have to worry about the child opening the door to himself. You only realize how heavy a dishwasher door is when the hinge no longer works.

Mark the installation starting position

Not a 3 minute job. Add 5 minutes to take the DW out and 15 minutes to put it back in. Worked for GE DW 2006. Doesn't quite fit the 3 hole version but I used the shortest hole anyway. If the hook has not separated from the cable, you will need to loosen/remove the reel. This requires separating the DW from the body, disconnecting the umbilical if it's hard copper, lowering the legs and pulling the DW out - just to gain access to the bolt on the outside of the wheel. Before removing, it is…

Inexpensive do-it-yourself solution to a serious problem

I love our dishwasher. When the door spring weakened I figured I would either have to pay for an expensive repair or buy a brand new unit. I searched the internet for a solution and found one, watched a few videos to see if I could fix it, then ordered it. It wasn't the spring, it was the small piece of nylon that attached the spring and cable to the door that was broken. Worked like a champ. The hardest part was figuring out how to pull the dishwasher out a bit so I could put it in (just a…
