Good sound, but don't expect miracles for such a price

I use it as a headphone amplifier. The sound is pretty good apart from a little soft 60 bar hum which I suspect is coming from the transformers. This is a good entry-level amp for those who want a warmer "tube" tone compared to a solid state amp. I still run this amp and expect the sound to improve over time, but don't expect the hum to magically go away. On normal listening I don't hear any hum except between tracks.

Pros
  • So far satisfied

  • Expensive

Serious failure after 2 weeks.

Although the amp sounded fantastic it suffered a power failure in less than 2 weeks of use. I found it VERY hot and I suspect there is a design flaw. Upon examination, a badly burned area is visible next to one of the input transistors. One of the capacitors on the input section is severely stretched and is about to burst. The room I keep this unit in is typically <60 degrees Fahrenheit, so ambient temperature doesn't matter. I might have had a defective device, but nothing should fail in…

LITTLE PIPES THAT COULD BECOME A LOVE STORY.

Sensitivity, sensitivity and more sensitivity! Oh, did I mention speaker sensitivity? Matching this amp with the right speakers is paramount to everything else if you want them to sound musical. Period. FACT: If you have sub-90dB speakers and plan on hooking them up, this will serve you and your brother much better as an aesthetic conversation starter/paperweight. 3.5W x2 does not have the luxury of choosing any speaker! HOWEVER, and this is a very HUGE BUT, if your speakers are in the 90-100dB

Low price for tube sound with the right speakers

I saw a review of this little amp on YouTube and decided to give it a try. I'm completely blown away by the powerful sound of this tiny tube amp. Now that said, I'm using this to drive a klipsch 1 Heresy set which, in case you don't know, is extremely easy to drive compared to most speakers today, especially the little bookshelves you know of maybe think they would be good couple. I've also tried some Kef Q350s and while they were very comfortable at a moderate volume you could definitely see…

Great sounding amp with the right speakers

I use this amp with Klipsch RB-61 II (95dB) speakers and they sound as good as any other speakers I've heard. In my small listening room, this amp will drive them to painful levels if I'm not careful. Clear sound, almost no hissing (actually depends on the recording) and excellent bass, middle and treble. Shipping was fast enough but I had to reinstall the pins and reinstall the tubes when it arrived but I had absolutely no problems with it after that. I'm always tempted by reviews of other…

  • Free for educational purposes

  • A little shabby

WOW! This is a really great sounding, very musical Class A tube integrated amp that belies its low price and small size! I'm not sure if it can be called a SET (single ended triode) amplifier as it uses 2 6AD10 pentodes (SEP, single ended pentode?). Each tube acts as a preamp and driver in a unique design. I have tested this amp with various speakers that I have. Mainly AV123 X-LS, JBL Studio 530, Martin Logan LX16 and Vintage Polk Audio Monitor 10B loudspeakers with FLAC, WMA lossless and…

Why go broke and have fun with tube audio.

lamps are not sound magic. They behave in a certain way in the audio chain and many listeners like the sound. Many others just love glow tubes. you look cool Doesn't matter. It's all part of the fun of playing with our respective stereos. I had a predecessor of this amp. Everything was good. I screwed in a couple of NOS phones and it overclocked my front end network in my home theater. All is well (they were very effective speakers). I gave up home theater for my first love, stereo playback…
