I'm a keen carpenter and these brackets work great when attached to a long 5" board with a straight edge. Place small pieces of thin wood spacers under the wood you want to straighten and clamp them in place to keep the wood stock from moving or wrinkling before you pierce it through the saw blade. Easy straight fit when using a table saw, even on 8 foot pieces of wood.

If you don't have a surface planer, there's no way to straighten the edge of a circular saw that doesn't require a lot of tools and you have to do it yourself. It can be made to work, but not worth squeezing the juice out of. First, they are expensive. You'll need two sets for anything longer than about 4 feet. just trust me So now you have that $40 with taxes etc. Second, the whole setup is NOT SECURE unless you also put it under the leading edge to compensate for the thickness of the mounts (and the little pivoting legs are a joke - that's far from it remove it). stable enough - believe me you need a pad.
