Fixed leaking oil filter on a 2004 WRX

Used this to replace an old worn out gasket that was causing my oil filter to leak around the gasket. The old pad was flush with the surface it sat on, the new pad still works great. Just make sure you put a strong clamp on the correct hose before installing or you'll end up in a coolant shower like my friend and I did.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Damaged

Fixed my leaking oil cooler.

Fits perfectly on my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT station wagon. Fixed that pesky over-filter oil leak so common on turbo Subbies these years. It was an easy install as I had to change the oil AND put in a new oil pan so I dropped the oil pan but I believe you can still do this with the oil pan in place and without draining the coolant. Just take a small toothpick and feel for it.

  • A sea of positive emotions

Correct Gasket for 2004 Forester

It was the correct gasket, I put it on and the oil leak at the bottom of the Subaru oil filter was gone. Used a 24mm deep Tekton 14262 socket, mirror and SE 10253HS pick set to remove the old gasket. The oil cooler drops just far enough that you don't have to disconnect the coolant lines. Thanks to the guy on one of the Subaru forums for that info. Many said that you need to drain the coolant. This is totally unnecessary and the Subaru dealership charged "up to" $400 to replace this gasket.

Pros
  • Solid Finish
Cons
  • Slight change
