Can't shift the machine manually? The magnet on it is what you need to attach it. They often break down on Volvos and this one is no different. However, if you have good wrenching skills, this is an easy fix.

As all the reviews show you can find a youtube video and some forums to point you in the right direction on the best way to install this. You don't have to be good with tools, just relax and be determined to get things done. It took about 45 minutes in total. It's not worth paying the dealer a bunch of dollars for it.

My car will not move out of park or neutral unless I manually disengage the shift lock. I wasn't sure if this part would solve the problem. The original was broken in the shift mechanism. It contains a magnet that contains a reading switch. After the replacement everything worked perfectly. The swap took about an hour as it takes time to figure out how to disassemble it.

Took me literally 25 minutes from start to finish on my 2007 C70. It helps that I've removed the waterfall several times. The hardest part is removing the gear selector knob, which is really easy once you know how. If you insert the key and put the gearing in the neutral position, the threaded part at the bottom can be moved much further down under the slots of the handle itself. Perfect works part. I just bought a used 2008 Volvo C30, this part was completely gone, I put it in and now my car had the option to shift manually.
