They are great! I bought them for a friend for her golden 50th birthday and then bought myself a set. They look great wherever I put them—on my office desk, on my desk at work, on my coffee table in the common room—and I get compliments on them (seriously, a coaster compliment!). My only complaint is that they aren't absorbent so if I use a glass that condenses it drips onto the coaster and then onto the table. These are definitely heavy, good quality pieces that will do if you want something glam. As for me, I love marble, but the gold struck me as too light, almost tasteless, if that makes sense. I was looking for something more subtle. I thought the gold around the edges would work, but it just screamed at me when I walked into the room and I was looking for something to match my other items on my coffee table. , Do not disturb. I bought these after gathering everything I could from other reviews. I love it. Plain white marble (and I'm pretty sure it's marble) with gold accents around the perimeter. Can be used in formal or casual settings. The marble is honed (matte finish) and not glossy, which was an issue because I was concerned that if it had a glossy finish, condensation would collect and bead up.
