Perfect! works like a charm

You can't buy a better bit than GreenLee. The reason I say this is because it is the ONLY bit that is ribbed on both sides. Most other devices have a flute for extracting metal chips. Greenleys have two, which means less cutting resistance and faster drilling because the metal can come out of the dill faster. Use them daily to drill holes in steel and aluminum for electrical work.

Pros
  • Unique split tip design penetrates steel faster
Cons
  • old

Best step drill

A few years ago I bought a pair of Greenlee step drills and this time I bought two more because the drill worked so well. We have built various frames and structural supports from stainless steel, universal braces, rebar, aluminum and cast iron. Once the pilot hole is drilled, this step drill cuts through it almost like butter. The first 1/2 inch step drill probably lasted more than a few thousand passes before its cutting edge dulled. Because the cutting edge is so sharp and hard, the newโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Won't walk or slip
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Ideal for 1/2 " diameter steel pins and buttons

Attachment of heavy objects. Tumblers (I prefer SnapToggles) are great for simple drywall, but sometimes you either nudge or really want to stick a lever through a steel bolt. In these scenarios, you need exactly this bit. First, pay attention to the length of this bit; that's enough for 5/8 inch drywall, but not much thicker. It's also designed solely for drilling a 1/2" hole. It does the latter excellently. With light to moderate pressure and low RPM, it will drill through sheet metal studsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Balanced double groove design requires less pressure
Cons
  • Unsafe
