I thought I would like this velvet paper because of the velvet claw. Pastel doesn't smear like regular pastel paper, which is a big plus, but it's almost impossible to rub off. it's also expensive. I will use this pad but will not buy again.

This paper has a very strange texture and resembles terry cloth. Pastel pencils look good, but pastel pencils look boring. Pencils like the Faber castell polychrome look a bit nice, but I don't really like them because it feels like I'm stroking over terry cloth instead of paper.

I finally tried paper with soft pastels. It worked best with my Sennelier brand, probably because they are so soft. I have also used Rembrandt and they were ok. I drew a self-portrait. The finished painting has such a beautiful texture quality. Usually pastel paper has a tooth that leaves a patterned texture. This paper leaves a soft texture, as if you could reach out and caress your face, and feels like soft skin.
