Hamilton Reflective Cat 🐱 Safety Collar, 3/8-Inch x 10-Inch Review

Great collar and great that it's reflective. A safe break is what you need to keep your kitty safe. Jackie gives up 2 claws!

Looks very strong, but its quality depends on the elastic connection loop. On my two cats, the small rubber loop tore rather than stretched. In retrospect, the loop is too thin, so of course it breaks easily. So two good collars are wasted.

Our cat goes hunting every day in the jungle near our home and the Hamilton collars are the only ones that can take the shock the she gives her. . Other collars come home torn after a few days. These collars can last over a year! The latter was badly faded but didn't crack or stretch like other brands.

I bought this collar for my 8 year old cat and after a week of wearing it all the fur on her neck fell out where the collar was. I used to put collars on her and that never happened to her. It wasn't too tight, you could put 2 fingers between the collar and the neck. I believe this is the texture of the material used. (I have a degree in Textile and Fashion Design). I bought a collar from Pawtitas instead and its fabric is much less abrasive and its hair is slow growing.

While I like the strong but flexible material of the collar itself, I find the use of an elastic emergency release strap in it too unreliable, thus making the collar good for cats, but only for as long as it lasts. Unlike a collar with an emergency release, which can be buckled back if it ever comes off (at least if you can figure out where/on what your cat lost it), the elastic on this collar broke when my cat used it for the first time . across his face and tried to pull it off.
