Very Poor Quality Images - Save Your Money! My HP scanner/printer makes a much better digital copy of my old photos. The only positive thing I can say about this converter is that it is fast. So you can choose between fast but poor quality or slow but high quality. I take my time and do it right.

I could not get this device to work on my computer. Of course, Hammacher Schlemmer doesn't make this product, so I was referred to arcsoft. arcsoft has sent me several unanswered emails telling me how to get information from the site, but I can't find anyone to help me. Bottom line, I never buy anything packaged from Hammacher because they can't support what they're selling.

This thing is the pinnacle of false marketing and just complete rubbish. It's in no way the shape or form of a scanner, it's a horrible digital camera glued into a fancy plastic lightbulb housing. It just takes a snapshot of your paper photo and interpolates it on PC, that's all it does. Head to Goodwill and buy a cheap flatbed printer and you'll be a lot better at scanning photos than this bunch. .

Hammacher Schlemmer Photo Digital Photo Converter is NOT compatible with 64-bit operating systems. This does not apply to newer operating systems such as Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP Professional 64, which usually run in a 64-bit operating environment. No support. That being said, if you have an old Windows XP computer, you can find a portable digital photo converter that will suit all needs. I uploaded this to an older system and it worked great!

This thing does what it advertises, but there are far more practical ways to scan photos in bulk. This converter basically works by taking your photo in a box. The image quality is decent enough, but if you do all reproductions, or are interested in preserving the original image quality as much as possible, you really should look at a document scanner or a regular flatbed scanner.
