When the kids wanted to use the hammock, I used the hinges to lower it slightly to the ground, then raise it back up when I wanted to. Great set of straps. Used them to hang a Hennesy hammock as well as a Lawson Blue Ridge hammock. The straps are just the right width to be tree friendly without the extra width and they are very long which allows for the use of larger trees as well as the use of trees further apart. Tried them for the first time this weekend and the straps are fantastic. I like the band size. It's much less bulky than 1 inch belts and still protects trees well. The reflective thread is strongly illuminated with a small flashlight, making it highly visible at night. I highly recommend the belts. Carabiners are heavy for their size and weight.
