It's a little tedious, but before I iron a section of hair in thin layers, I take a comb, comb through that section of hair and untangle any knots and tangles. This iron heats up quickly. I set the temperature to medium. I would like to order a holder but used an oven mitt instead. It is recommended to use good thermal protection; I used Chi Argan Oil with Moringa Oil. I have Type 4 natural African American hair and this tool did a great job in straightening my hair. This straightener is mostly as expected. It heats up very well and straightens my hair (thick and frizzy) well, it seemed to curl better than straighten. It's not the best iron I've owned, but for the price it's functional and a very nice color. I was disappointed that the platters had chipped slightly around the edges, but that didn't cause any problems in use.
