I have always been amazed at the number of 5 star reviews one can find on very low quality products. I wonder how many of these are legal. It's actually thicker borosilicate than my old separator. I really like the quality and the filter and coverage put it on my 5 star list. I bought these as a backup because I use them all the time. Not only for separating fat, but also for measuring and pouring hot liquids, brewing tea, etc. As said in the title. Do not attempt to remove the filter cover if the seal is tight. Place the separator in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes and then try again. I'm so glad my brain cells fired up…

Doesn't separate my sauce as well as plastic sauces with a leak proof valve at the bottom, but it's not plastic and can handle heat so it's better. People complain in these reviews that it's brittle, but that's because they never had any of the early Pyrex glassware, like the Silex blown glass coffee pots. All of these materials were just as thin and delicate only when pressed against harder things. I smashed so much Pyrex in my sink it doesn't do anything so I'm sure it will never hit the sink
