IF your Honda engine is chasing

The small control panel is located behind the carburetor on the Honda GVC160 engine. If your mower spins (hunts), there's a good chance that replacing it will solve the problem. That's what happened to my lawn mower.

    Pros
    • Easy to read control panel
    Cons
    • Slightly dented

    Starts again with a pull

Five year old lawn mower engine would not start at operating temperature. Replaced that thermostat (which controls the choke) and the engine runs like new; starts again with a train. Easy to replace.

    You're kidding - waxes

Of all the technical failures I've seen, and in 45 years in the automotive business, I've seen a lot, but I still marvel at the genius that caused this mess. Briggs built more engines than Detroit, and the simple rod and spring they use to operate the choke has always worked flawlessly. But somehow this engineer came up with a wax-actuated air shock. Wax. Yes, you read it right. Wax! It was the excellent Ganges. That reminds me of what Scotty said to Kirk. "The more complex you make the…

    Often Overlooked Maintenance Item

I have a 10 year old Honda mower and it reliably cuts my lawn. My current garden is almost an acre and the mower is working hard but great. I have replaced many parts in my service over the years but this is what I have missed. When the lawn mower gets hot it won't want to start without removing the air filter and a couple of tugs. This little item was the key - problem solved. Over the season I rebuilt the carburetor, changed tires, oil, blade, belt, oil, radio, spark plug wire, tires, recoil…

Who knows it's basically your auto choke?

I was surprised to find this part at Revain but found it and bought it. An easy to replace part, just watch it on YouTube and your mower will be up and running in no time. My mower was stuck wide open and spinning like a muta due to a non-working thermovox. I didn't discover this until I messed up the regulator setting. DO NOT TOUCH THIS ADJUSTMENT or you will regret it as just one micrometer adjustment makes a HUGE difference in RPM. It took me a while to get back to normal as that part was…

    Genuine Honda part.

I mean you can't go wrong with Honda Genuine OEM parts. I actually bought this for my 15 year old GCV160 lawnmower as I gave it a new OEM carburetor maybe right? Well good intentions but I didn't do my homework and it was actually wrong for my mower. Luckily a week later I was working on a much newer (5 year old) GCV160, this part matched this engine perfectly so it didn't end up going to waste. I can't take a single star off the rating because I didn't do my homework and this part works great…

    Pros
    • Nice packaging
    Cons
    • Good but not great

My Honda lawnmower started to run badly after 4 years. If he struggled for a while, he decided to look for a problem. I removed the carburetor assembly (including the choke machine). There was this thermo-wax thing in the cavity of the engine and the pin was freezing, sticking out. The pin should go in and out (but on a cold engine). It was easy to take everything off but putting it back on was a bit of a hassle as two screws hold three gaskets, a heat shield, a carburetor and an air filter…

    Pros
    • Stylish and modern design
    Cons
    • Does not go with everything
