Hello, I just wanted to say a few words about this product and for the price it's actually very good. The only thing I want to differentiate about this product is that I wish it had a way to control the temperature. I wasn't sure at first if I should buy this product but I went ahead and bought it. It all feels like strong plastic but flexible material. It has a source pad that you place under the rocks in your tank. The source pad has a curve in the middle and an extra piece of plastic…

Works as advertised and inexpensive

Pros: 1) Inexpensive and easy to install 2) Works well in 3 gallon water CONS: 1) Always On: Won't turn on/off if it's a certain temperature reached, it will further increase the temperature in a small volume of water. ***THAT YOU MUST CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE CAREFULLY, ESPECIALLY IN A WARM ROOM AND/OR IN THE SUMMER!*** 2) It is NOT RECOMMENDED to use this heater for less than 3 gallons, see notes. 3) Evenly with gravel up and lots of slack in the power cord, this heater tends to "float" to…

Good heating, but can fail.

I installed a 5.5 gallon betta tank on my desk in my office and since the tank was smaller I wanted to try to hide the heater as much as possible. I chose the Hydor as it was fully submersible and was told the cold heater would need to be buried under the substrate. The heater arrived and everything looked fine at the first inspection. The heating pad was nice, wide and even supple. The cable was long and came with a cable guide and suction cup to make routing the cable easier. Once in place…

Bettas are very happy

I read so many reviews of small heaters it made my head spin so I finally decided to buy two of these for my betta bowls . I had them for about 24 hours and they made my two males very happy. I have two vase type bowls, yes I know they "prefer" more space, but I'm talking about heaters, not betta habitats. They each hold about 1 gallon. I also have river pebbles and bamboo. I thoroughly cleaned the bowls, stones and heaters. Then put a layer of pebbles, a heater and more pebbles on top. I…

My beta likes it in fish and aquatic animals

I have this in my beta bowl. It's not a huge environment, but it does have a fairly large surface area for its size (i.e. it's fairly flat). A full bowl probably holds about 1 1/3 gallons, it probably has about a gallon in it as of this writing. I keep the heater buried in the gravel (well actually the gravel is stacked in it but not on top of it) and the cord runs down the side of the bowl which is attached with a suction cup (which comes with the unit). Don't keep daily temperature logs, but…
