Description of Hydro II Sponge Pro Filter

Experience crystal clear water, radiantly healthy freshwater or saltwater fish, and whisper-quiet, high flow filtration without constant cartridge replacements or a hazardous impeller. Quiet and easy to clean - simply rinse and squeeze in used tank water (not tap water!) to maintain nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Inner canister of filter can be filled with activated charcoal, carbon, or other media. Hooks up directly to a powerhead or pump, and the diffuser can replace air stones. To set up, simply assemble, bury the base, and connect an air hose. Soft foam filters across a wide surface area, creating bubbles to reduce protein buildup and increase oxygen. Ideal for low-current breeding, betta, discus, and turtle tanks. Fast-cycle a new tank by transferring a filter sponge from old to new. For even more pristine water and longer filter life, combine with ATI Filter Max pre-filtration or try our Hydro-Sponge Pro line.

Not bad but... for filter accessory

Decent quality but if you have 20 gallons of the smaller size do not buy it will be too much for it. Seems ok, not sure if it will work with a different filter pump.

Pros
  • Nicely
Cons
  • No Insurance

Not natural Sponge

There were many warnings in the reviews but I ordered anyway. I bought a large sponge hoping it would be a coarse version but it isn't. I suppose this is my loss and I didn't install it but ordered a coarse sponge filter from another manufacturer. You wouldn't want to use such a narrow sponge in your aquarium. To be honest, I'm not sure if this is the right app.

Superb quality.: Fish and aquatic animals

Something to say about simplicity. Simple designs are often the best. Sponge filters fall into this category. They are popular in the hobby because they work. It may not seem like doing much in your aquarium until you clean it in a bucket of water for the first time. All of my aquariums have a sponge filter or two. Both as a reserve for a canister or cooktop, and as an additional surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. I have several different brands but my favorite is the hydro sponge…

A cheap and effective addition to any filtration system

These filters are ideal as inlet filters for aquarium pumps and other filters. Not only do they offer additional biological filtration area, but they also feature a super-mechanical pre-filter that prevents algae and debris from clogging the biomedia in sump and canister filters. They also ensure that smaller fish are not injured or killed by the powerful pump. They significantly extend the impeller life of "suspended" power filters and prevent dirt from being sucked in and damaging the…

This filter was first manufactured and sold by Lustar Plastics. It was the best sponge filter at the time; It was far more efficient than the Tetra Billi and Brilliant filters (the "cheap twin column filters" mentioned by another reviewer) and far better than the Dirt Magnet filters (perhaps the worst designed and most inefficient aquarium filters ever made ) of the now defunct jungle. laboratories. When Lustar Plastics collapsed, Aquarium Technology acquired and improved this product line…
