Description of Hydroton Original Clay Pebbles Lightweight

The original Hydroton brand expanded clay is a unique, lightweight expanded clay aggregate made in Germany. This natural clay is mined, formed into pellets, then kiln fired at high temperatures to cause the clay to expand into tough, lightweight balls. Clay naturally has balanced capillary action, with an ideal surface structure.

Old battered box outside. but great interior.

backordered! Apparently half would do. The original packaging was delivered as advertised, although 100% sealed (for clay pebbles). However, the packaging box looked like what was left of Mad Max. 2 Day Prime has preserved it here safely. 100% indoors.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Please ensure you sanitize your clay upon receipt. Otherwise white mold will start to grow. I used an aqueous solution of bleach (light bleach) 1:4 I think. Then keep water nearby to wash off the clay. Let dry. It is also to take clay dust.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Only available in black

Yes, there is some dust. Yes, most pellets float, but then again, I don't do underwater terraforming. They are reddish in color with a blackish interior. They come in a variety of sizes, allowing for tighter packing. Useful tip to remove dust and stop floating particles. Rinse the pellets, place the pellets in water in a pressure cooker/tin can and make sure the pellets can be submerged in the water. Cook under pressure/may take about 10 minutes. You can either let it cool or just release the…

  • GOLS certified

  • Fading
