When searching for a stud, if you scan left to right and highlight "center of stud", then scan right to left and note "center of stud" same Sometimes this discrepancy ranges up to nearly an inch. And I scan 2x4 wooden shelves behind interior walls. It doesn't give you full confidence when using it.

This stud sensor is great for the home. It detects peaks quickly and the missed peak feature helps improve accuracy. The AC detector is also incredibly useful and saved me a few nasty bumps. My only complaint is that the sensor often has trouble locating the side and center of the bolt. I haven't been able to try it on thicker walls yet.

This may not work for heavy users or thick wall material, but it did work in the bathroom on marble tile and in the garage on 3/4 inch plaster over 1/2 plywood. So easy that anyone could use it after reading the instructions, the enclosed DVD gives tips, after listening to it even an experienced installer will be surprised.

If you're browsing through several stud finders and wondering which one to pick, let me simplify it for you. 1) Zircon owns the technology patent. So I would opt for fakes. 2) This is the cheapest model with an LCD screen that can be used to determine the center of the ledge. So, between the i65 and the HD70, since that was a few bucks cheaper I would go with this one. Must have tools to find bolts for TV mount, electrical box, mounting heavy painting, artwork, vacuum etc etc.

It works very well - I know because I have new spikes next to the old ones and it finds the new ones louder and clearer, and then the old ones a few inches away with a little more shimmer.
