Let me start by saying that this thing can carry a small child if installed properly. The first attempt ended in complete failure. Didn't tighten and the spring didn't work. This bar is designed to be stretched about an inch longer than you need and from there you press it into place. Our mechanism didn't tighten properly and we didn't get any spring tension trying to install. Read the 1 star reviews before you buy this product they all say basically the same thing. This will be the second pull rod we sent back. If you attempt to adjust the stem while it is locked, the spring will snap and the end cap will disengage. The rod is completely broken at this point and will no longer function at all. If you oversize the bar and lock it somehow, you won't be able to unlock it to adjust without damaging it. If you can unlock it, it will be broken. As one reviewer put it…

***Edit**** After writing this review I went back and re-read several other reviews. I even watched a 2 minute YouTube video on how to install it. I got angry again. I went back and tried to install again but to no avail. Then I pulled the sticks out to their full length and put the small one in the big one. This rod is actually incredibly easy to use. It's different than most drawbars, but even easier to use. Pull to desired length plus 1 inch, then twist to secure. It's that easy! I bought this shower curtain rod to use as a regular curtain rod (for eyelet blackout panels) for a glass slider. I used 50-87" to cover a 70" hole.
