I bought this unit to measure the thickness of steel on bridge decks. The spring-loaded mechanism keeps the jaws open instead of closed. This makes it very inconvenient to use in my workspace. IGaging is one of the few companies that makes these calipers and I understand the larger ones work as I expected. This one returns.

Suitable for measuring the diameter of a workpiece on a lathe. However, if you want to set the caliper to an exact size, there is no adjustment screw to fine-tune it like there is on non-digital calipers. The screw simply holds the sensor at the distance you hold your arms apart. Due to the fact that the springs tend to push the shoulders apart, it's very difficult to get them to the exact size.

I like it for $20. It's accurate enough as I measured with a caliper. I was concerned it would be inaccurate, but everything was fine at the 64th scale. The battery cover didn't stay closed right out of the box, so I secured it with a haversack wire guide. As I said, with 4 stars. I am very happy with the price.
