Very inaccurate.: pH test strips

Like others, I added borax using one of the popular online calculators. After adding the recommended amount (84 pounds in my case) in 40 pound increments, I went from zero to 25 ppm. I added another 40 pounds thinking it would make a difference but I was wrong! He still says 25ppm after adding 120lbs. Finally, as a test, I put the water in the cup with borax and it still read 25ppm. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

It seems to accurately measure the boric acid levels in our pool.

I have used a number of products for industrial testing systems and have found them to be fairly accurate. It's close enough to ensure I have about + or - the right amount of borate to do my job of buffering pool chemistry. The gradient around the right amount (50 ppm) goes from 25, then 50, then 100 ppm. The color difference from 25 to 50 is quite noticeable, but from 50 to 100 is only a minor change to me. I went to 25, then added a few pounds, then checked the next day, added a few more…

Not very satisfied with the best laboratory consumables

strips. Ironically, the website where I originally found the recommended usage for these strips has one of the best pool calculators out there - for determining the actual dry weight required for a given chemical. I have tested my water 3 times since adding the Bioguard optimizer to my pool and the recommended amount on the pool calculator website allowed the optimizer to do what it claims, but THESE test strips are virtually useless. I would advise you to look elsewhere but they all have the…
