Description of M2.5 Heat Set Insert Tip (30 Qty) Compatible with Hakko FX-888D & Weller SP40NUS Irons - Ideal for Securely Fastening 3D Printed Parts

Designed and manufactured in the USA. Made by Virtjoule, this is the original long shank tip for the Hakko FX888D iron. If you see others with this shape not made by Virtjoule, they are copy cats. Longer shank than other tips allows you to reach deeper into 3D printed parts and tight corners to install heat-set inserts without touching your iron and melting the plastic. Installation tip works better than soldering iron tip since conical tips can catch on the insert and accidentally pull the insert out while melting the plastic and ruin your part. This tip works with inserts that are sized M2.5. 30xM2.5 inserts are in the package. M2.5 machine screws works with most Raspberry Pi computer board mounts, making this a good choice for custom enclosures for Raspberry Pi. Compatible with some Weller irons like the SP40NKUS. No other tips are compatible with as many soldering irons. Other tips are not compatible with Hakko irons. These installation tips slide over the ceramic heating element of the Hakko irons, just like the soldering iron tip, while still fitting in the 1/4" chamber of ST Series tips Weller irons. We have not tested every possible soldering iron and most makers have dozens of models that will not be compatible. Check your compatibility before ordering.

Terrible Quality, Waste of Money

As a new buyer looking for welding tools for my automotive work, I was disappointed with the quality of these connectors. As my tests showed, they didn't fit properly and kept disconnecting during use. The only positive was that they were advertised as compatible with the FX 888D. However, the cons far outweighed any benefit, and I would not recommend this product to anyone in the automotive industry.

Pros
  • Compatible with FX 888D
Cons
  • Not compatible with other soldering irons

Great for RPi4 mounts, want to see more sizes, maybe longer ones?

I used a 4 x 4mm hole in my model (Ender 3 Pro and PLA) and it works great as my printer prints holes that are a little smaller than most. The testbed works are planning to use it in the last case I'm building for my cyberdeck and also looking into the m3 kit as I have some modular panels in my case it would be nice to have a permanent thread. It would also be great to see refill kits like the 100 for $10, I would buy them all the time especially if they were longer too.

Pros
  • This tip works with M2.5 inserts. Inserts 30 x M2.5 per pack. The M2.5 mounting screws fit most Raspberry Pi computer board brackets, making them a good choice for non-standard Raspberry Pi cases.
Cons
  • No Instructions

Shrink insert 2.5mm for 3D printing

These are hard to find! 2.5mm inserts are mainly used for PCB mounting like Raspberry Pi. Mine came with a bonus 3D printed solder tip holder which was not described in the product description. It looks lonely with just a tip in it. Brass inserts slide smoothly into PLA @ 200C soldering tip. It doesn't look like they move straight or by twisting. The plastic melts and hardens around the insert grooves. Seller tips: Sell cheaper without a soldering tip! I don't have a Hakko or Weller, so…

Pros
  • A mounting tip works better than a soldering iron tip as the conical tips can catch on the insert and accidentally pull the insert out if the plastic melts and ruins your part.
