Change in recipe caused diarrhea

We have been feeding our dog this brand for 2 years and have loved it so far. The recipe change caused severe diarrhea in my dog. Too bad they had to change an already great recipe. Now we've spent $60 because we can't get it back and now I have to look for a new brand. So disappointed!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

Killed one of my dogs!

I have 4 dogs and have used this food as it used to have good ingredients. All of my dogs developed vomiting and severe diarrhea. One died, going from happy and healthy to dead in 24 hours. Two other dogs cost me over $2,000 in vet bills. I contacted customer service and they offered a coupon. I posted pictures of what appeared to be dead animal remains in their food. PLEASE DO NOT BUY YOUR PRODUCTS!

He seems to like the rabbit and duck versions

My dog wouldn't eat the chicken version of this dish. He seemed to like the bunny and duck versions but turned it down. He hasn't eaten for several days, he vomited several times. Based on reviews elsewhere, it appears that Nature's Variety recently changed the formula. I've read that many high protein dog foods are high in lead. I haven't heard anything about problems with Instinct. However, the FDA does not set an upper limit for lead in dogs, and certain foods have been shown to contain more

YOU HAVE ADDED 3 NEW PROTEINS TO THIS PRODUCT

Anyone using this on an allergic dog please note: YOU HAVE CHANGED THE INGREDIENTS! The original ingredients can be seen in the first picture, the new ingredients in the second picture. The top 8 ingredients now include turkey meal, salmon meal, and chicken eggs. This is really a problem if you have selected food for your pet that is based on a restricted diet. Most importantly, there were no claims of new ingredients or a new formula, only a "new look" claim for the packaging. Revain sent me a

Not the way it used to be

Our labrador has a massive allergy that limits the food he can eat. We started using this food over a year ago and it has had a huge impact on our dog - we love it! We have an automatic order through Revain so make sure you receive it regularly. About 3 bags ago the food arrived and the bag looked different but we thought they just changed the packaging. Well they have definitely changed more than that as our dog had horrible gas, indigestion, diarrhea and a deep cough as if something was…

The product has changed. Now includes peas! Updated July 30, 2018

Update July 30, 2018 My original review mentioned that peas were added to the product and I gave the product 2 stars. Since then we have been using the food and have had no problems with our dogs. I have raised my rating from 2 to 4 stars. As a long-time customer, we would have gotten 5 stars if Instinct had announced changes to their product instead of just repackaging and shipping. ------------------ We've been buying Instinct Original for a long time. This time, upon opening, I noticed that…

I'm not sure about the taste; it's dog food!

Haven't tried it yet...but my puppies love it; it smells ok to me...that's as far as I'll go. But now - after having to judge the taste - wait a minute... Well, I ate a pebble. It's hard on the teeth, but surprisingly, it rubs up a lot better with a sip of water. As a cook I taste dry hay, possibly old flakes and a vague aftertaste; that weird aftertaste you get when you lick a stone. (Childhood memories) However, the smell dissipates immediately...it was neither terrible nor exciting; However,

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not sure

The food itself has good reviews on various dog food review sites (e.g. Dog Food Advisor, a very reputable and unbiased nutrition platform). Reviews.) My dogs seem to like it, especially freeze dried raw food. However, my only complaint, and why I deducted two stars, is that there is little to no protein specificity, making it very difficult to meet the "restricted diet" requirements with Instinct foods. Beef version as stated on package, all types of red meat. However, when reading the…

MOLDY Dry dog food

MOLD. Make sure to check your Instinct bag when your shipment arrives. The bag I received today had mold inside - on the side of the bag as well as bits of pellets. Check out the photos so you know what to look out for! I have reported this to Revain Customer Service. I was offered a refund. I throw away the twenty pound sack. Glad I didn't forget to check the expiry date (January 23, 2021) and inspect the pouch before feeding it to my dog. Moldy parts are not very noticeable unless you take…
