I was hesitant to try this braid when it arrived simply because it's definitely heavier than the Lycra variety, it's made of thick wool, and the temperature here is around 120 degrees. Summer. I'm so glad I tried it! It holds up 1000x better than lycra tail braids, my horse isn't afraid of being overweight, it holds up well and the fur isn't on my gelding's legs so he's not hot (hotter than he already is). Lycra tail braids are great but within a month they break at the bottom and make holes up
