Just like that, the optimized version is way better

This is not the same as the original, with a flat front hock. They stay in place and protect the ankle much better than these. They are more adjustable than those with tabs around the perimeter due to the presence of Velcro on either side. They do their job, but change frequently enough to defeat the protection they're supposed to offer. I still use them, but next time I'll be careful and buy a version with a valve in front of the ankle.

Pros
  • Absolutely Awesome!
Cons
  • High price

Highly recommended! best of horses

I've had them for over a month now and they still work very well. I was concerned that I would have to make them too tight for them to hold up, but that doesn't bother me anymore. I also thought that the lack of fleece lining on the front might cause chafing or other issues, but I had no problems. One of them sometimes turns its back at night, but not always - who knows what my horse will do at night! Most importantly, her ankle ulcers are GONE. Recommend!

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Strap

So much easier. in Horses

They stay in place and are a lot easier than all the other little fixes I've tried to develop. His ankle pain is gone and hopefully I'll never need it again. I wish there was an option to buy them individually instead of as a pair. I think I've had them for about 6 months now and they have stretched a bit but are very adjustable. I could try to get another season out of them if needed, but the inside is cracking a bit and I'll probably want to replace them again if needed.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • A little maintainability

Great product - great results!

My retiree developed ulcers on his ankles after a twisted tendon and arthritis. Every time I thought I was healed, the wounds reopened no matter how deep I got into the stable. Very frustrating! My sister recommended these hock pads to me which she has used successfully on her older horse. They are easy to put on, stay put, don't bother my horse at all and best of all the hock sores healed within a week of using them! They can be washed well in both the washing machine and the dryer. Great…

Healed ulcers but started to wear off quickly!

They worked long enough to heal my horse's hock ulcers but they started to wear off after wearing them for protection for about 3 weeks. His pen is hard and serious when dry, and when you see what it did to those shields, it's no wonder he had ulcers on his hocks! He has a small paddock with a litter box, but prefers to ride on hard material! They wash well, which I had to do often as the boil was oozing and the medicated ointment the vet put on me was making the coat rough and rough. Perhaps…

Best ankle protection I've found

My 15 hour QH left ankle bleeding with sores. I have tried other ankle guards/boots but they never stay in place. I've had them for a week now and his ankle looks a lot better. He now has scabs which is an improvement and a step towards recovery. They actually stayed where they were. I keep him in the stable at night. No matter how fluffy the shavings are, he turns in circles and pushes almost all of his shavings into the wall. Then when he goes to bed I think if ever there was a horse with…

Product Alert!: Horses

This was temporary relief from ankle pain but had to be discontinued 24/7. Hoping the wounds heal. You CANNOT use them with wet skin or any type of ointment or ointment. They caused damage to my horse's hair follicle (permanent white spot) on the back of his laurel legs at the top of the hock. If the shoes aren't tight enough, they go out, are immediately stepped on, and get soaked with urine and feces. However, this is preferable to wearing too tight, which can result in permanent career…
