🔧 Irwin 316015 Cobalt Drill Set Review

Seems to be of good quality, I like that they came with a light coat of rust preventative. As an industrial mechanic, I wanted something that could be modified and sharpened. This was the best value for money I found after an hour of research!

The photo shows that it comes with a 1/2” nozzle but it is not! In fact, some of the bits shown in the photo are not even in the set I received (see photo I've attached). The only reason I bought this set is for the 1/2 inch bit. If I had known I wasn't getting it I would have gone elsewhere. I will never buy from them again!

Drills will not drill through hardened steel. Tried increasing the 3/16" hole to 1/4". A drilling speed of 500 rpm, a medium feed rate and lubricating oil were used. The drill bit immediately wore about 3/8 inch. Irwin and the supplier blamed the user instead of acknowledging the drill's failure. Initially I couldn't use an HSS drill bit and the same setting and it didn't help, but the original drill bit dulled but didn't wear down like an Irwin 8% cobalt bit. Eventually I managed to enlarge…
