Big time saver!

I like the Speedbor Max. If you've ever only used traditional hammer drills and hole saws, you're living in the past. The 21st century has brought us the incredibly fast three-blade Speedboro. I used them on a recent electrical system rewiring and upgrade project. I had to drill a lot of holes in REAL 2" hardwood joists. Combined with my Dewalt 18v cordless drill this was a very quick job. They have a lead thread which makes it easy to center the holder with speed! Sorry for that shameless pun.

Pros
  • Self-feed drill
Cons
  • Very expensive

The drill goes through the 2" side in literally seconds, leaving a relatively clean hole and not much debris on the exit side. To test this for dividing the workpiece, I intentionally used a 7/16" drill bit in thin chipboard. Mine broke the piece right away. I then attempted to pre-drill a pilot hole the size of a screw tip before using the…

Two stars for the product and one because I like the Irwin brand

The bits and case look impressive and promising. Just to get a feel for them I started drilling 2x4 studs with smaller bits using my Milwaukee 1/2" impact drill rated at about 6 amps. No problem, the holes looked clean and the bit came through by itself. Breaking through is possible with little effort as the threaded spindle cannot get caught if it sticks out on the other side. When I increased the dimensions, my drill started to complain! Limit for my drill as it hardly I had to stop, step…
