After all, the speaker doesn't whine.

3 years ago I upgraded the head unit and speakers in my 1995 Mazda Miata. Since it's a convertible, I wanted to make sure I had enough power and volume to even hear the audiobook's words with the top down at 80 mph on California freeways. For the past 3 years I've had issues with the speakers "howling" when I had the amp gain set too high (which always kept the volume too low). I made sure both the stereo and amp were properly grounded, but couldn't fix the problem. I put this simple filter in…

Exceeded my expectations

I bought this to eliminate the hum from an amplifier and subwoofer I had installed in the trunk of my car. Worked great and completely solved the problem. Unable to find any parametric output, I dusted off my old signal generator and true RMS voltmeter and ran some simple tests. As far as I can tell the frequency response from -3dB on the unloaded output is <5Hz to >20kHz. The gain is approximately unity and is fully symmetrical, meaning the input and output connections can be swapped…

Like Magic: Amplifier Installation

Fits me perfectly. I have a Cadillac STS with an aux connection via RCA under the armrest. I wanted bluetooth so I bought a car bluetooth adapter which I plugged into cigarette lighter cables that plugged into the RCA ports. The bluetooth adapter worked great until I started the engine, I had a strong hum from the alternator that got louder as the engine revs and a loud hum that sounded like an airplane. I ordered this adapter along with a BOSS B15N squelch that plugs into the power cords. The…

Works but poor quality control.

It's cheap and works for what I need, but the inlet and outlet are reversed. If you connect the left channel (white), it comes out the right channel (red) at the other end. I thought it was just one device but I've bought 14 more of these and have tested 5 back-to-back so far and all 5 have inputs and outputs backwards connected. Factory. For someone like me and others who may be troubleshooting, the question might be why are the wires swapped and unknowingly flipping the wires to match the…

Many of the reviews here are due to abuse.

So first of all, anyone who claims that they can catch fire or generate a 5-volt drop is ignorant. This is for the signal. It varies between 1.2 and 4 volts. Claims that it can't handle high current are silly. The current in the signal is negligible. These are two transformers with the same winding and RCA cables for signal, not speaker level. fractions of watts. It isolates well if your problem is a ground potential difference causing one element to be grounded through the other through the…

Goodbye low frequencies.

This product does an excellent job of reducing noise due to its transformer isolation properties. However, it fails due to its frequency response, which is typical for this type of product. If you search online for "car audio isolator frequency response" you will find about 10dB drop at 100Hz which is terrible if you like bass. The answer lies in using a professional grade audio isolator, sometimes referred to in the audio industry as a straight box. I've used Art Pro Audio DTI gear, which has…

Surprising and then catastrophic.

Had two on my amp. One on the front and one on the back. It worked flawlessly for almost a year, then one day a strange noise appeared randomly at the right front door, the noise was like something rattling in the door. So, after a couple of weeks I finally took the door apart, checked everything, even added foam to make sure nothing was rattling, and still this noise was there, so I tried to find it, but to no avail, but after that about two days I smelled burnt. And I found that my speaker…

Solid little noise filter

Pros:+ Does what it says on the tin - reduces noise to a point where you can't hear it unless you crank the amp/out volume almost all the way up ( which you'll probably never get to, since at that point you'll likely either be corrupting your signal or damaging your equipment). It also does a good job of cleaning the built-in sound card in a computer. In combination with ferrite chokes the result was slightly better than with a filter. Cons: - Glossy plastic case. While I was hoping for a metal
