I put it to work as soon as it arrived. I have more confidence in the measurements of this instrument than in observations and conjectures. It's well made and should last a long time. But the screw in it is too short as others have pointed out, barely reaching the nylon ring in the nut. I would still recommend it.

I bought this pad gauge to see if my mechanic was being honest with how much time was left in my brake pads. If you know cars, this is a great (and inexpensive) tool for inspecting brake pads without having to go to a mechanic or dealership.

Essentially a set of pass/fail indicators. Good: 1. Heavy metal, thick enough not to bend when used or dropped. 2. heavy powder coating (remember if you're worried about a few thousand then replace the pads) 3. good embossing on the sensors. Bad: 1. The bolt is too short and needs to be longer to get into the nylon on the nylon locknut.

Works as it should. The only problem with this is that it's hard to tell what size is listed on each gauge. The screw that holds the gauges together is also too short. The included bolt uses a self-locking nut and only has a few threads on the bolt. So when you start laying out jigs looking for the size you need, they end up loosening enough for the screw to fall out.
