Speeds are fast and stable with the LATEST drivers.

So my laptop is getting a bit old. Elitebook hp 8730w. This is a 17 inch workstation with a Core 2 Duo Extreme processor, 4 GB of RAM and a Quadro 2700M 512 MB. It has an E-Sata port, but who else uses it unless you happen to have an external E-Sata drive lying around. I actually bought this card reader from Amazon in 2012. It works with a little help.

I wanted to test this device before writing a review. It would have been 5 stars if it weren't for the obstacles I had to overcome: 1. It was well packaged in the box, but connecting the USB2 power cable to the side of the card was a little fiddly. The center power pin was misaligned in the socket. Maybe something is wrong with the attachment of the parts. But that's where it all ended. 2. The driver software was not installed from the mini CD. I had to go to the J-Tech website where I found…

I used this to connect an old laptop with only USB 2.0 ports to a new Seagate external hard drive with USB 3.0 ports connect skills. My laptop is a Lenovo T500 with Windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu Linux 12.04 dual boot. First with Windows 7, after copying and pasting around 20GB of data from Windows Explorer to an external hard drive with older USB 2.0 ports, I saw data transfer rates of around 20MB/s.
