Old medium but still useful

Casein is no longer used due to acrylic growth; However, casein is still used. If you want a smooth and opaque finish, try casein. This is the basic package of quality casein. Note: A matting spray must be applied to preserve the surface.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Weak

fun color - if you can stand the smell.

is an odd color - if you can stand the smell. Haven't sold it yet as I want a cleaner workspace and my wife is sensitive to chemicals so the smell is a problem but I love it. The handles are like oil on steroids and can rise like gouache and are easier to glaze over. Good price for an introductory set. To attempt.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Hard to say,

The joy of drawing. for drawing

Test environment on a canvas I have laying around. With the help of casein emulsion it is possible to achieve a wash similar to gouache or watercolour. Dries much slower than these colors. The color is a strange intermediate mixture between gouache and oil paint in circulation. Holds brush marks when used with less water like oil, yet dries in a reasonable time allowing you to work in a day or two without damaging the underpainting if it's not saturated. Works about half an hour.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • No

No wonder James Gurney loves this medium

It's really fun, it's like gouache but feels like butter. It can be diluted with water for clear coats or used thick for paste. It also maintains punches well. Colors are bright and lightfast. This set may have limited colors, but the possibilities are endless. I had a few issues with the packaging, Revain could have used a thicker box for delicate items like this. Glad he wasn't hurt in any way.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Non-automatic

Something odd in yellow

Amazing stuff to play with, love the results and the velvety texture when applied like acrylic. But there is something weird with the yellowing, either I got a bad batch and my yellowing washed off, or it's just the pigment that this brand uses but this weird light green film stays on my brushes that gets erased from everything. It comes off easily with olive oil and then brush cleaner/soap, but it's still weird enough that I thought I'd share it. This odd coating appears on both natural and…

Fun but not perfect starter set

Overall I'm glad I bought this paint set at this price but maybe I'll be more picky in the future. These colors work and deliver what casein colors promise, with a few caveats. First of all, I would like to mention the color choice. At first glance it's a standard mix kit plus green (only 37ml which is great). It works as expected, the red is actually magenta. They are all a very intense opaque color as advertised but the problem is that they are a mixed bag in terms of pigments. Here is a list

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Incredible piggy bank
