Balsam wood planes are the best novelties and gag toys

It's interesting - and good to have several of these because they're so fragile they last MINUTES - IF YOU'RE LUCKY. Also, none of them have a "chassis", so the grandchildren were disappointed.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Thin

Poor cut quality / Not from childhood

Difficult to build as they are made from wafer thin cork wood. We broke several parts of the wing without much effort. Are they the same as when I was a kid? Don't think! Some of the slots are irregularly shaped and don't match the pieces - so they'll break if you force them in! They fly? Hardly - often they fall to the ground or throw to the side. There was no way to correct her path. The girls looked cute but they didn't fly cute. Pity!

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Damaged

As funny as you remember. For you that is.

Who remembers buying these planes at the drugstore and then taking them home to see just how far they can fly? I do. And I was a master at figuring out how to set up the wings so the planes would fly far, rather than loop-de-loop or stall or whatever. On a nice summer day this could keep me busy for several hours until something broke and I had to either buy a new plane or figure out how to fix the broken part with the leftover balsa wood scraps from the kit. My kids had fun for exactly fiveโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
